So this was the way it was to be; me, Susan, and me favourite mate.
_____
The love affair started way back before I met Susan.
She didn’t stand a chance now I look at it.
P’raps it’s better she didn’t know how close we were; me mate and I.
P’raps she wouldn’t be with me now if she did.
Anyhow, spilt milk and all that.
Too bad. Now she has no sense of humour, that girl.
Me mate and I are inseparable, and she knows it.
What’s a man got if not a mate?
BF 19; God I love ya.
Carolyn Page
My husband had three such ‘mates’ – classic motor bikes. I outlived one, and am about to supervise the divorce from the second one. Which only leaves one more… and I’ll find a way there too. Great take on the prompt, Caroline.
That’s incredibly astute of you; how ever did you do that? 😀
The third – I believe you will. What woman would sit idly by and allow a machine to usurp her?
A great comment, Sandra. Thank You for making me smile.. 🙂
Dear Carolyn,
There are relationships and then there are relationships. 😉 Love the voice in this.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Indeed, Rochelle. 😉
Thank You. I wanted to have a little fun with this one. And, I enjoy behaving badly sometimes… 😉 😉
What a great voice! You made me smile and that is a winner in my book. Nicely done!
So pleased; a smile is reward enough. I even made myself smile. 🙂
I loved yours; it made me ‘think’… Also a winner, in my book.. 😉
Thank you, Carolyn!
Very good. Certainly wasn’t the ‘mate’ I expected.
BF 19 – I believe many males have these for ‘mates’. I’ve known a few in my lifetime. 😉
Entertaining and amusing, well done.
That’s what I was hoping for! It’s not often I play a male. Hopefully, it worked. 😉
Thank You for visiting..
I like your use of language, and the spilt milk
My male voice thanks you, Michael.
I loved yours. Now there’s a true male, pragmatic and knowledgeable.
Ha ha! Wasn’t quite the “mate” I was thinking for a moment there… That was very fun (and how true is that? So many guys have different types of “mates” 2-wheeled, 4-wheeled, mechanical…
I must admit I was hoping for a ‘twist’… Glad it wasn’t as obvious as it could have been, Dale.
I remember my first boyfriend, all those years ago, was one such male. His ‘mate’ was a little mini minor, which saw more of him than me. I doubt that males have changed in the meantime, and probably have more ‘mates’ to play with these days.
Thanks so much for visiting with me…
Nope, if.wasn’t! Great job!
I was lucky…none of my boyfriends had such “mates” that got more attention!!
Reminds me of all the husbands down our way, tinkering with their cars every weekend when I was young.
I was just reminded of that in my comment above. Seems it’s a hobby for many a male. As some would say: At least we know where they are…!?! 😀
Well, me mate has a mate, and it all seem to work out nicely! Neat take! xoxo
Hello mate. Now, Resa, this is a favourite expression of many an Aussie. You hear it almost everywhere. To hear it coming from you would be a treasure, to be sure… See ya mate!
(BTW I’m having computer probs. The technician can’t come until next Wednesday. Darn. %$&*@@@@@ is all I can say. So my internet usage will be limited. I’m currently at K’s workplace using one of his computers. Thankful to have the access; though, it means I won’t be online much for a while..)
xoxoxo
Oh I love the voice… such an excellent description of a man who takes a stand in what’s important…
Hahah, Bjorn. If you didn’t stand up for all males I would be disappointed!
I agree, a man’s business is his business… 😀
This was a fun story. We do have to contend to our lovers outside intrests don’t we?
Absolutely, Kim. It really is a two-way street. You know: You scratch mine and I’ll scratch yours. 😀
xoxoxo
Yes true.
Great voice and fun story. Susan is lucky. He has his mate, she is free to have interests of her own without nagging… fine as long as he doesn’t overdo it, I think.
So true! My ‘mate’ has a wonderful hobby that has kept him occupied and amused for almost his entire life. Because of this I have space and time for my hobbies and loves free from guilt. 😉
Naturally, we also need space for each other, else life, and our independent choices, separate too much, as you’ve said.
Thanks for visiting…
If it’s not a classic car it’s football or golf!
Indeed, Liz… 😀
Never having to contend with either, I’d say ignorance is bliss! 😀
Liz, I’ve just left a comment on last week’s FF. For some reason, quite beyond me, it posted under an old Google blog, no longer operating.
Such a wonderfully written piece. Though made so sad by ‘actual’ events underlying. Well done to you.
Lovely! Actually, in my house it’s the opposite. I love the cars and he drives a wreck! 🙂
Lucky you, Yolanda… Though I’m sure there’s a perk or two for him too!
We girls know how to keep a man happy. 😉
That’s hilarious. I could comment of choosing a vehicle over a person buuut in boyfriend vrs dog the dog always wins.
What a lucky little pooch… 😀
Now I can’t stop smiling!
Well if you can’t beat ‘em join them. That’s what the wife in my story did! Lol
Mind you, Dawn, in this case I’m more than pleased I don’t have to. 😉
I recall your story… and along came the Grandchildren… 😀
Great write …. captivated me until the end.
Isadora 😎
Thank You, Isadora… 🙂
I’ve just read yours. What a touching and beautifully written piece. I’m still smiling.. 😉
Too funny, Carolyn! I’m lucky, I guess, that my man doesn’t really have a mate – at least not this powerful one 🙂
Me too, Helen. 😉
I’m thinking of you, and sending hugs and kisses.
xoxoxo
Oh he really loves his mate, no doubt about that.
But still sounds very friendly and open to other love affairs unlike the main character in my story.
XD loved it.
Yes, I’m sure he would be open, as you’ve said. He’s a non-threatening type, not much between his ears! 😉
Yes, your character was indeed a nasty one; and created a dastardly atmosphere… Well done to you.. 🙂
Thank you!
XD
A little late in commenting on this one but… Boys and their toys! I love how you’ve written this piece. Nicely done.
Thank You, Caerlynn, so sweet of you to comment!
Yes, indeed, boys and their toys! Ah well, can’t do with them, and can’t do without them! 😉
BTW.. I love your play on words – Pen ‘n’ Tonic 😉
Thanks!
My wife has some jealousy of the time I spend writing, which by the way is far less time than I’d like to spend with that mate. Some sacrifices have to be made on both ends.
I agree, it’s a two way street, so to speak. I’m pleased my man has interests (some independent, some co-jointly). Life could become rather boring, otherwise…
Thank You for visiting.
Dear Susan,,, It is best not to fight them. Join them!
Good advice!
I believe Susan has ‘come to terms’ with his ‘love’.
What’s a girl to do? 😉
❤
