Episode 51 – We Are Here At Your Command, Dearest

Indeed, we are here at your command, dearest, to serve in your quest for answers.

Thank you.

What would you like to discuss?

So many changes of late; it’s hard to know where to begin.

Indeed, dearest, we have been watching your changing attitudes and behaviours with great interest. Shall we begin by saying that the changes you have been experiencing are not at all unusual or surprising.

I do appreciate that to the ‘observer’ changes can seem automatic and without theatre. However, to the individual experiencing, those same changes can cause confusion and more than a little angst.

To be sure, dearest. Yes, we can certainly agree with that. Shall we cut to the chase, dearest?

Yes, that sounds good.

You no longer have the desire to dance in competition dancing. Is this correct?

Yes, this is true. I have come to appreciate that in order to perform at the standard required for competition takes more of an investment than I am willing to put forward.

Indeed, dearest, an investment requiring much of your time and energy. Yes?

Yes, absolutely true.

You do not enjoy dancing as once you did?

I do believe I will always love dancing. However, I do not enjoy the practise, the precision needed for the comp floor.

You enjoy freedom of movement, dearest?

Indeed I do, yes. When on the social dance floor there is the freedom to enjoy. However, on the comp floor there is the need of repetition. One’s body movement must continue to remain the same during routines. I find this quite boring and restricting.

Are you saying that you wish to continue dance, but on a social condition?

No, I am not saying that either. As much as I have enjoyed dancing I can’t say I want to continue, even on the social dance floor.

Can you explain in some detail, dearest?

I love diversification. I enjoy being with, and socialising with persons of all ages. In the dance world, available to me, the most predominate age group are those of similar age to myself. As I am not conscious of being seventy three I find the majority in this age bracket to be, in the main, old, old thinking and, usually, far less mobile than myself.

You wish to consort with those of greater physical ability, dearest?

I do, yes.

And this, dearest, was always going to cause some confusion and angst for you and for those who backwards age. You didn’t entertain this thought when advised that you were backwards ageing?

I did, yes. However, it has not been as evident to me as it has been becoming over this past period.

It has caused you distress, dearest?

You could say that, yes. It has been difficult watching friends, in particular dancing friends ending their plans, or losing their health, their mobility, even their looks as they age.

This was always going to be the case, dearest.

Yes, I understand this was inevitable. However, I must now take it upon myself to enjoy my life in a fashion that truly supports me and the position in which I find myself.

And this is known to you, dearest?

No, I can’t say that I know exactly where this will lead. However, I know that whatever comes must be for my benefit and support.

Indeed dearest, indeed. We look forward to watching the progress that you will make.

Many Blessings, Dearest. Many Blessings to All.

  1. Charlee: “Our Dada understands about not wanting to compete anymore, probably because he has NEVER wanted to compete, for all the reasons you list for stopping.”
Chaplin: “Yeah just the other day a lady at the studio said he and Mama should compete and he was like ‘Oh noooo, I don’t need that kind of stress.'”
Charlee: “Most of the people at their studio are younger than Mama and Dada. Dada thinks that has something to do with the Marine base nearby. Apparently the Marines have a ball every year and dancing at it is part of their job description …”

Oh, how I wish! The infusion of younger, energetic dancers (whatever their skill level) is delightful.
And now I understand why you are in such high demand at your dance studio. Dancing with someone who ‘knows their stuff’ is so uplifting. More power to you.. :) :) lol 🕺
