Chocolate Protein Milk Smoothie

I can’t help myself – I need to share one of my favourite protein drinks I’ve recently found as I’ve meticulously scoured the internet for yummy additions to my diet. This (going a ‘googling) is one of my favourite pastimes of late; one that has had enormously delicious rewards.

The first of these has a base of ‘chickpeas’ (garbanzo beans) with the flavours of cocoa powder blended with your favourite plant based milk (I gravitate to soy milk every time). For sweetness there are dates or maple syrup. Or my choice – a scoop of protein powder.

Should you be a lover of a warm cuppa, this is made even more scrumptious with a little heating; such as a microwave can offer.

Servings: 3 – (Or two if you are truly a connoisseur and just plain hungry!)

  • Drain and rinse a can of chickpeas or 1&1/2 cups cooked chickpeas – approx. 250grams. (Your choice to roast them, or not. I have had them drained and rinsed straight from the can and the end result has been fabulous!)
  • 6 dates, soft, big & pitted (Or a slurp of maple syrup to taste; or a scoop of protein powder of choice.)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder. (I use a little less – approx. 1/4 cup!)
  • 3 cups – 750ml – plant based milk. (Naturally, you can use any milk of your choice!)
  • 1 cup ice cubes – (Optional)
  • Blend together

Now, I cannot take credit for this delightfully nutritious drink. I have found a most entertaining man on YouTube, and I offer his site ‘Epic Mint Leaves’ to you as he makes this delicious drink.

I know it sounds a little scary… well, it did to me when I first came across it. But, I was inspired to give it a go! Boy oh boy; I was so glad I did. I luv it…

Do Enjoy!

    1. The chickpea addition is what ‘scared’ me too!
But, strangely enough, there is absolutely no chickpea taste at all. It truly is quite yummy!
If you like, you could substitute with any white bean like cannellini bean, if that sounds better… hahah.
I do understand though… It does sound very strange indeed. 😂

    1. So lovely you think so!
      Yum indeed, Dorothy.
I have enjoyed it as breakfast, a light lunch, and even a tasty ‘pick-me-up’ mid afternoon.
It is so versatile. To say little about how easy it is to create – within minutes.
My mind can’t help but contemplate the many little additions I know could be added… From a simple smoothie to variations galore!
I’m thinking a wee tad of ginger perhaps? 😋

    1. I truly recommend giving it a try. I find it quite yummy. This recipe makes three smoothies that keep in the fridge for a few days. Mind you, they don’t generally last that long! 😋
