Picture it & write – It was gray…!

Ermilia’s Picture it & write  (Sunday 04 November 2012)

Once again, here is my offering to ‘Picture it & write’ hosted by Ermilia (Ermisenda and Eliabeth) who invite others to join them by writing a fictional story or poem to accompany an image presented on their blog.

Was she afraid?

Yes, she was.

And, of what was she afraid?

She didn’t know.

The day looked gray. It had looked gray now for some time. She didn’t really know why. It just appeared gray to her.

She wrapped the blanket around a little tighter. She had always felt comfortable when wrapped up. It brought back those memories of time in his arms. Oh, how wrapped up she felt then. The sun shone. The colours of the day were vivid. Her memories clouded the view.

And now; what were her memories doing? Yes, that is what they did every moment of every day. They told her that life was now so different. Yes, so different.

Would she ever feel the warmth of being wrapped up again? She didn’t know. It all seemed so impossible to her this day. An impossibility she didn’t want to know. And yet, here it was knocking on her door.

  1. Good match with the picture, Carolyn. After studying it first, I wondered what you’d write, and then you nailed it! I think you’re a romantic at heart, what with all your musicals and whatnot!

    1. I’m always the optimist. I believe she would suffer some more, and just as she thought she would never again feel the wrapped up moment ever again, it happens. She realises that life is wonderful, and that ‘second time’, even ‘third time’ around does indeed happen. This she appreciates to the extent that she allows herself to feel ‘wrapped up’ without the thought of loss ever causing her distress again. Yes, she realises that those ‘wrapped up’ moments can begin at any moment.

  2. This is probably not the reaction you expected… I ran into the other room in tears halfway through this. I’m back now. “Oh, how wrapped up she felt then.” I guess more on that later…

  3. I love your style of having that conversational structure. The beginning really gripped my attention. Beautiful storytelling once again, Carolyn. Thanks for contributing this week! And thanks for the good luck for my exams, I’ll need it! 😛

    1. So glad you enjoyed it, and Thank You for that observation. I’m really just finding my ‘style’. I think it takes others to point it out before we appreciate it for ourselves. A little like learning what we like and how we think..!
You’re welcome; I hope they (the exams) go well for you… 😉 All the very best.

    1. Thank You, Jamie… If only there was enough ‘time’ to do all the wonderful stories that float about between the images outward and inward… Ah well, we can only do what we can do!
Thanks again for dropping by; much appreciated…!

  4. it is so interesting to see our own interpretation of what we see and think the picture shows and then read what you say. I am always amazed by your reflection of the world and always looking forward to read the next one

    1. I’d love to read YOUR interpretation..! This is one of the beauties of our world; to see it through other’s eyes. My belief is: This is one of the ways for us all to ‘fully’ appreciate the ‘differences’ in a gentle (yet effective) manner. Through this means (this simple method of writing a little story) a whole array of appreciation and understanding of each other becomes evident.
      Won’t you join me….!?!

        1. Oh no, Kim; I just went with the picture… it suggested sadness to me..!
Of course, we can’t write anything, and make it seem real to the reader, unless we are able to draw upon emotions that we’ve experienced. So, in a sense, I drew upon those feelings of the past when I did suffer those awful energies. And, being a counselor, I can draw upon the experiences of others, too.

This reminds me of your novel. It was rather ‘steamy’, suggesting that this was a part of your experience; you sexy siren you… Ha hah, Kim; writing sure says a lot about the writer…! 😉
